Career Planning

OPRA encourages postdocs and researchers at all stages to explore the resources below. If you are a postdoc or researcher nearing the end of your tenure at KAUST, feel free to reach out to OPRA program lead Damien Lightfoot for a meeting to discuss your career path.

The links below provide guidance on how to choose a career path (traditional or non-traditional) and how to build a successful and fulfilling career:

  • Vitae: Vitae is dedicated to realizing the potential of researchers through transforming their professional and career development.
  • myIDP: A web-based career-planning tool created to help graduate students and Postdoctoral Fellows in the sciences define and pursue their career goals.
  • National Postdoctoral Association: KAUST is an affiliate member of the National Postdoctoral Association (NPA). This means that you have access to all that the NPA has to offer (resources, toolkits, and its wide network).

Many leading societies and associations, as well as leading publishing groups in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) fields have created a ‘Careers’ section on their websites. These pages provide a wealth of insight, advice and general information that you may find useful in making your career plans:
